Sources and methodology
Where the facts come from
- Italian law: Legislative Decree 286/1998, Law 91/1992 on citizenship, Interministerial Decree 850/2011 on visas and the decree of 29 February 2024 on digital nomads.
- MIMIT: Investor Visa for Italy and the operating manual.
- Italian consulates and embassies: Houston, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Pristina.
- The Agenzia delle Entrate: option for new residents and incentives for moving to Italy; the Ministry of the Interior: citizenship and naturalisation; Integrazione Migranti.
- Data published by BRIDGES: investor visa, elective residence, nomad visa, flat tax, permanent residence, citizenship and the Passport Index.
How I check and date information
- Each article shows an "Updated" date. It changes only when the facts are reviewed.
- Where sources differ, I show both.
Facts I could not confirm in official sources
- the income of about €31,000 a year for elective residence is consular practice (Houston, Abu Dhabi), not a figure written in the law;
- the suspension of the investor visa for Russian and Belarusian citizens since 14 July 2023 comes from BRIDGES; I could not open the official investor visa portal during this check;
- the total timelines (three to four months for the investor visa, one to three months for the elective residence visa) come from BRIDGES;
- the IRPEF brackets, the IVIE and IVAFE rates and the 2026 social allowance of €7,101.12 come from BRIDGES;
- BRIDGES dates the €300,000 flat tax to August 2024, while the Agenzia delle Entrate applies it to moves from 1 January 2026; I follow the official page;
- the passport rank: 9th of 199 with 182 destinations in the BRIDGES Passport Index of 4 October 2026; other indexes give other numbers.
How often the guides are updated
All articles are reviewed at least once a quarter and after any change to Italian immigration or tax rules.
